Dudley & Stephens (1884) - This print sets out the case. 1)Court Scene sketched during trial in Nov. 1884. 2)Richard Parker's Memorial stone in Itchen Ferry, Hampshire. 3)Edwin Stephens as he appeared at the trial. He never recovered from the shock of the ordeal. 4)Tom Dudley is the only crew member of whom there is a known photo. After serving his 6 month sentence, he moved to Australia where he died from the plague in 1886. 5) Baron Huddleston was the judge. He emphatically told the jury Dudley & Stephens had absolutely no justification in killing Richard Parker. 6) Public at trial. The seats were overfilled. 7)The Dinghy. When the yacht, the Mignonette, sank after being battered by a huge wave, the crew escaped in this dinghy. The only food salvaged was 2 cans of turnips. Adrift in the tropics, they really had no chance of reaching land.
