Gift for a Special Ohio Woman Lawyer Only - What a Special Gift!! Give to your Ohio female lawyer to say nice going for a courtroom victory; or, as a law school graduation gift; or, to acknowledge passing the bar; or, just because she is special to you. We obtained this original photo from an antique dealer. It is nicely framed in what appears to be an original frame, and truly is a piece of Ohio legal history. The tintype photo is elegantly matted and has a gold leaf frame within the large frame. But what is really special is the handwritten note on the backside of the framed photo. It is a very old description of who is pictured. She was one of the first women lawyers in Ohio! DO an internet search for her. You will find volumes. Miss Nettie Cronise was admitted to the bar in April, 1873, on recommendation of a committee of the bar, composed of George E. Seney, N. L. Brewer, R. G. Pennington, John McCauley and W. H. Gibson. Miss Cronise and her sister Florence (the subject here) were the first ladies admitted to practice law in Ohio. The older sister attended Heidelberg College and graduated in 1873. She was married to N. B. Lutes, who was admitted to the bar on the same day. Miss Florence Cronise (pictured) graduated from Heidelberg College in 1876, studied law with Warren P. Noble, was admitted as an attorney at law and practiced in Tiffin in Seneca County in Ohio. The Cronise family originally came from Baltimore or so says the note on the back. This is a very neat tintype photographic image -- an important piece of Ohio legal history! The frame is about 5 inches by 4.5 inches. Note that the photo image itself is a fairly small 2" X 1 3/4".
