Additional information: In 1836 Nicholas Villeroy and Eugene Francis Boch, both master potters, formed a partnership and established a stoneware factory in an old restored abbey in Mettlach, Germany. Decorative stoneware with an in-mold relief was their specialty. There they produced stoneware of extremely high quality which was honored at many World Fairs and Exhibitions. Most of the items that they produced were marked with an incised castle and the name "Mettlach". Production ended in 1921 when a fire raged through the old abbey. 1893 Mettlach Corpus Juris Stein Item #N472 - $275 |
