The Recorder - Famous Spy Prints

Sir Leslie Ward "Spy" (1851-1922) was the most prolific artist for the nearly fifty years that Vanity Fair displayed its political, social, and literary views to the elite of nineteenth-century England. Vanity Fair was the magazine for those in the know, and people delighted in finding themselves caricatured in prose and picture.
Spy's style was methodical. He studied his victims for hours in a courtroom setting. No echelon of society escaped his cutting representations. During his association with the magazine he contributed 1,325 caricatures. Today these reproductions are valued because they are the most faithful mirror and record of the Victorian era. 7 1/2" X 14".
